HELP ROMEO FIND LOVE!

people are heartless bastards.

the first time this hit me was when i was about ten. it was the day my school’s shooting team was asked to practice on the dogs that lived in daly college's palatial grounds.

every day at school was a blood bath that week. the first dog i saw shot was hit in the back leg. he managed to drag himself into the dense bush that abounded in the premises. his blood pooled on the road, but it soaked right into the red soil of madhya pradesh, giving him enough of a foil to get away that day.

a number of the dogs went that way. shot, but alive. they simply bled to death, or they were shot another day. bit by bit, part by part. here a leg, there a jaw, or a stomach, or a skull...

the shooting team’s technique was critiqued every day. i suppose they got better because eventually all the dogs seemed to have been shot dead, or gone underground.

one day that week, i dumped my school books in my desk, stuffed three puppies into my satchel and smuggled them home.

my mother didn’t really understand. nor did she believe me about the blood bath, since i was perpetually bringing stray animals home on some forlorn pretext or the other. she loved animals but in her opinion mongrels belonged on the street. so early the next morning, while i was asleep, she drove those puppies over to the other end of town.

incredibly though, the puppies came back that very same night. they found their way all the way across town and came back to me. they didn’t go back to daly college which was their territory until just a day ago. after that day, the puppies grew up outside our house. though they were never house pets, my (by then guilt riddled) mother fed them and fussed over them for many years.

i have always disliked people who dislike animals, who are cruel to them, or who can turn a blind eye when one needs help. there’s something sick and unnatural about folks like that if you ask me.

which brings me to romeo:

romeo is one year old and currently located in mumbai. the heartless bastard who owns romeo gets off on beating him every day and is apparently threatening to abandon him in the street. i can’t help thinking he’d be better off that way...unless, maybe you can help find romeo a home?

in case you can help find romeo temporary shelter or a loving home, please contact ruchi (M: 9820191321) from ‘Save The Helpless Animals Of Mumbai’ on Facebook, or get in touch with Abhi (M: 93219 51035).

else, please, please, please do pass the word around!

I can think of only one reason why people are such heartless bastards...when God said I'll give you more brains and reasoning than the rest of Phylum Chordata, He had to balance it out somewhere...and so he cut down on our power to love and to use our heart...

For my part, I'll pass on word about Romeo and really hope that he finds a loving home in soon...

thank you, anupama, please pass on word of romeo to anyone you think might be able to help.

while i agree about the less heart when it comes to people, i really wonder about the more brain - since the one thing we seem to have progressively gotten better at is annihilating ourselves!

I'll pass on the word too all the dog lovers, I know. My parents would kill me or I'd adopt the doggie myself.

Really? The shooting bit is so hard to believe.
They do deserve all the love. I feed the stray dogs every now and then. It feels nice!

@ki, yeah, i know how that works :) romeo found a half way house today. now he needs a family that'll adopt him and spoil him silly.

@sangfroid, the shooting's pretty hard to believe, yes, because it's so excessive and unnecessary. if you look up the daly college link, you'll see the shooting club's going strong. btw, have you ever seen the dog catcher in some towns use his metal hoops to 'catch' strays while sawing their necks half off...? happens all the time.

that was so gruesome. my heart goes out to Romeo. i talked to Champak Lal about him and i think he feels sad too. hope Romeo goes to a home where he'll be spoilt silly with overdose of TLC. :) best wishes from Champak and me.

that's one of the saddest things i've heard till now. i've got a mongrel off the streets m'self - and he's the muchest-loved member of the house. heart really goes out to romeo - please do update us on when he gets someone loving who deserves him.
